Welcome Learners!

Hi, I made this website because the learners of Georgian struggle a lot when it comes to grammar of our language, especially the verbs and most resources do not teach comprehensively or sometimes even plain incorrectly, so this website is going to cover important things that Georgian grammar has to offer so you can start learning the language yourself.

I get asked a lot by foreigners about the difficulties in our grammar and pronunciation. Of course, they are hard, but with enough dedication, you can learn and succeed to a level where you can have conversations and listen to Georgians speak.

I want to welcome you to my website and thank you for trying/wanting to learn our beautiful yet hard language.

Prerequisites of using this website and What to know before starting:

  • Know basic grammar terms like nouns, conjugation, etc.

  • Know Georgian alphabet, this website will not use romanization of any kind.

  • This website will not be perfect, though it does teach grammar from official sources.

  • This website will not be teaching any vocabulary outside of maybe possible slangs, idioms or words that are included in sample sentences.

  • I don't really know how to create blogs (This is my first time) so if you can rcommend me  thing or two message me on Discord :)

Thank you for your attention!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Georgian Have 2-3 Alphabets?

No, I don't know where people see this, but modern Georgians do not use/have 2 or 3 alphabets. We use one, which is called მხედრული <- and that's it. However, I do want to point out that Georgian has developed this alphabet over long times of history and before it, we had two others ასომთავრული and ნუსხა-ხუცური which had two different scripts and may still be used, mainly, in churches.

Why are Georgian verbs

so hard?

- Well, Georgian is an agglutinative language with polypersonal agreement. For me, Georgian is like magic land of affixes which go on nouns, verbs and other parts of speech. Georgian developed over time, so things appeared and disappeared.

That's really it.

Do all Georgians speak the same way

No, Georgia consists of many regions where each speak with different tone and grammar (though they are really just small changes). Though the most well-known parts are სამეგრელო, where people speak მეგრული (Mingrelian) and სვანეთი, where people speak სვანური. Georgian or Kartvelian consists of 4 main languages: ქართული, მეგრული, სვანური and ლაზური (Laz).

Since all languages share the same root they are really alike by grammar but to us, the speakers of Georgian, it is hard/impossible to understand them.
